Default Annoying rear end rattle

For the benefit of other users...

I had an annoying rattle from the rear. The obvious (having removed everything from the boot and checked the wheel well) was drop links, trailing arm bushes or ARB. Having jacked the car up and tried everything with a pry-bar I couldn't find anything obviously wrong.

On a hunch I tried the rear shocks. The rear o/s shock mount had worked loose - not the mount to body but the actual mount on the shock, namely the mount and the plastic sheath that covers the upper part of the shock. I had to drop the shock and then re-tighten the mount on the damper rod...rattle now gone.

It's not the usual cause, but worth checking as it was a free fix, albeit a PITA to drop the shock just to get to the top mount nut.

Is it a harsh rattle or a softer squeaker hollow rattle?

The rear of mine is rattling but has a squeaker sound to it. Definitely sounds like the top of the shocks where they're mounted to the car...

If you can imagine a couple of sockets from a socket set rattling around in the back, it's that kind of noise.

No rattle but a lot of intermittent squeaking on mine....rear radius arm bushes it turned out to be and now sorted. Seem's these do this around 65-70k ?
