Default New gear linkage cable - prices?

Hi all,

Well I drove wy commute this morning (Sheffield to Nottingham) reversed into a bay at work and the car lost gear selection.

I had the problem a month ago on my drive and had the AA out, so knew about the issue and its potential to reoccur, as he applied a temporary fix.

The AA guy was great and taught me some stuff about that area. For the years I have worked on cars i have never messed with anything gear related.

So on the C30 box the selector cable finishes with a plastic socket joint which sits onto a metal ball on a hinge. Maybe this is the same on most cars.

So the temporary fix the AA did (some electrical tape to make the ball and socket slightly snugger) finally failed. I had some electrical tape and a relevant screwdriver with me. So I redid the temporary repair in my workplace car park after work this evening.

As fun as this was (probably more so for the people who saw me) 🤣. I wear a suit for work so not ideal clothes for removing an air box and reaching to the gearbox.. I think I need to fix this with more urgency.

I have had a look around and couldn't source any aftermarket items? Anyone ever sourced any?

If not I may have to go to Volvo for the part, i suspect that will be a £100+ item?

My car is a 2011 C30 D2 so a 1.6 td Ford unit from what I understand.

So a couple of questions, will a Focus cable fit? And of so, do i go for 1.6d focus unit from the same year car?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Dave

Even if the ford cables fitted they could well be more expensive than the volvo ones ...
