OEM xenons by any chance? its not saying "bulb failure" but "headlamp failure" ? If xenons, maybe some issue regarding self-levelling?

Most likely. Proper behaviour is to level up every time you start the car so do it in front of the wall to see if any lights is doing up-down dance, may point you to failure. Also Vida+Dice (volvo diagnostic tool) would help you to troubleshoot instantly.

I have had this message a couple of times after the battery has been disconnected (V50 T5 AWD with xenons). After checking the lights are working fine, I found it goes away after the next re-start.
