Default SERVICING COSTS?

I RECENTLY SENT AN E-MAIL TO A VOLVO GARAGE ASKING FOR A QUOTE FOR A 12'000 MILE SERVICE ON A S60 D5. THE REPLY ASKED FOR THE VEH REG, AS THEY COULD NOT GIVE A QUOTE WITHOUT IT!!

DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHY THIS COULD BE?

I'VE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT THEY EXPECT THE COST TO BE £230. IS THIS A RESONABLE QUOTE?

Default RE: SERVICING COSTS?

Hi,
It seems about right for a Volvo. My S80 2.5 petrol cost me about £275 last December for the 60,000 mile service. The way the invoice is made up is in such a way it makes it damn difficult to understand, but basically the service costs £119.22 excluding labour and then they add all the extras like filters, coolant oil etc. Labour cost another £156.87!
This does not include spark plugs. What annoyed me was the fact that I had just topped up my washer fuild with a good quality wash and they chucked it all out and replaced it with their version. Not a great cost, just annoying. Engine oil set me back £35.70 and an "Environmental protection" whatever that is was another £4.99.
Definitely a case of overcharging if you ask me. It would have cost more except I pointed out that the car was still under warranty and the extra £160 for a track rod replacement would have to be paid by them.
However the car did come back singing like a bird, washed and cleaned inside and out. Grudgingly I have to admit that the dealership I use, always listens to me and acknowledges me in a pleasant manner and to me that counts for a lot.
Cheers,
Ian

Cheers Ian,

I don't suppose you know why on earth they would req the veh reg, to give a quote do you?

I've sent an e-mail to Volvo asking, but yet still to get a reply!

Nice car the S80, I would'nt like the cost of running it on petrol though.

Cheers, Andy.

Hi,
I suppose the charges differ the older the vehicle is? Not much consumption difference between the S80 and the S60 as they use the same engines. I think that the S60 across the range gets about 1 or 2 miles more per gallon than a S80. I probably average about 33mpg.
Servicing costs would be about the same. I am hoping to pick up a new S80 within the next month or two, but this time I am going to ask for a servicing plan which allows to to spread the cost over a year. Pay now service later. You don't get hit with a heavy 300 to 400 pound bill in one shot every year.
Cheers,
Ian
