Tuning for extra economy?
Hi everyone
I have just bought a 57 plate Sport (its a cracker). I want your thoughts on a remap or chip? I will likely want more overtaking power, but also a couple of mpg would be fine. Anybody have any opinions on this? (I appreciate that a hammering the thing will empty a tank, but I am an economical driver, I just want to see if a remap will assist fuel economy) |

for my two pennys worth you always boot it when you have a MAP on so the economy goes out of the window so enjoy the extra power and forget about fuel or if fuel is the issue leave it standard.

I did a review of the MTE remap on this XC90 forum (search "MTE remap") here. Whilst a lot of remap companies pushed the improved mpg gain down your throat when you're enquiring, i took it with a pinch of salt. i was hoping for 10-20% increase but it wasn't a deal breaker. The chap i purchased mine from (Don) felt the most genuine as he never promised it would be better, rather than a usual sales pitch.
I found mine reduced from 25 to 22.5 (10% reduction) on a D5 185 2006 XC90. i like to ride the power on it from around 2500 rpm and the power/torque gain is great for overtaking. it takes off like a scalded cat in 3rd gear. in summary - definately worth getting for the power increase, but don't believe you'll get an mpg gain unless you're sat on the motorway at 60 mph all the time. my driving is 60% town, and 20% A road, 20% twisty B roads, so a fair bit of stop/start/braking. |

I'll take a good read of it and we'll make a concious decision from there. I pick the car up on Saturday all nicely prepared by Volvo themselves! Cheers and thanks again |
