Hi Guy's thanks for your feedback. Bill, - yes I did have a new clutch fitted by the independent a few weeks ago when he assessed the car for the very same fault. Volvo hurriedly mentioned something about a clutch replacement when they were babbling on about the flywheel. Guess I was trying my best to stay calm and not pass out, I failed to take on board the full story - not that there was much of a story to start with! I have started to write a letter to Volvo explaining the situation to date, and that I feel mislead by the engine replacement. I am still very much in a state of shock. I cannot believe how little I am getting for my hard earned cash. Cheers again for your help.

็Hi guys, I'm the owner XC90 D5 model year 2010 from Bangkok, Thailand.
first of all, apologise for my English.

I got the similar problem like you with the white smoke coming from exhuast and burning smell leaks in the cabin while driving at 90 km/h. The other car in the road give me a light signals and shout on me to stop and look at the white smoke behind my car.

I bought this new car from Volvo Dealer on 27/09/2010 and the problem occurs on 17/10/2010 i just use this car only 700 kilometers.

just wanna share this for you guys. Now my car was in the Volvo Service. Volvo said that the diagnostic equipment had not detected any errors and everything is normal. Service Advisor explained to me, this can happend normal for Diesel Engine because of Lamba-sond function and Catalytic Converter but i don't think it's normal.

i saw this thread from the Volvo club in Thailand :

if u have any suggest plz leave the message here or on the link above, thank you

Default Another Woefull D5

I don't know if anyone is still mornitoring this thread. But if so I could certainly use some help!

My 2007 185bhp D5 SE with 140,000 on the clock has the pretty much exactly the same issues described by 'Definethelight'. Basically:

1. Once warm, you coast/idle for a period of >5 seconds and accelerate away. The longer the idle/coast the bigger the puff of white smoke that plumes out the back of the car. When cold or travelling at over 40mph steady driving no smoke appears. The car is returning a reasonale 35-37mpg on mixed driving.

2. The car seems to judder and be without turbo boost on and off. Particularly accelerating at around 2000rpm.

So far our local independant in conjunction with Volvo (same Volvo garage as mentioned in the thread) have changed various sensors and the inlet manifold pipe which apparantly was split. All to no avail.

They are about to launch a replacement of the EGR valve and control unit, followed by a Turbo replacement if that doesn't work. However before I had to remortgage our house I thought I'd jump on here and see if anyone could shed some light?
