I'm 34 and just awaiting delivery of my 11 R Design. Went from an Octavia VRs, Golf R32, BMW 335i M Sport Convertible and now the XC90. I got fed up with trying to load a car with luggage like your playing jenga!

A great thread indeed (even tho' I do say so myself !)

Well I need not worry about being too young then ! You are right - why do I care anyway.

A Skoda with a warmish VW engine - nice one ! I've heard them all over the last 3 & a bit years. I'd buy another Skoda, but I'm not waiting a year for a 4x4 Yeti/Scout.

The Volvo is an opportunistic buy...I'd looked at them before & reckoned I couldn't afford a decent one. The running costs do worry me slightly...but that must just be because I am getting old & sensible

35 when I go mine in 09 and would have bought one 5yrs prior if I had the dosh.

A lot of image concious youngsters with cash to burn will go for Range Rovers or Q7's for the bad boy image, but I think the XC90 can also look mean in the right colour, tinted windows, side steps and body kits etc.

Plus I think Volvo have gone a long way to improve the image and appeal of there cars, but alas some people will always hark back to the "old man" tag - but most are probably jealous deep down....

Looked at the Q7 myself - even took one out - but couldn't get the spec I wanted for less than £48k so as the Volvo does everything and more for £15k less it was a no-brainer!

Had 2 kids (1 in baby seat), my mum, the wife a boot full to the brim with luggage going to Goodwood one year. We left early, so I took it easy on the way down and got 30mpg! Could easy get 2 seats in, and no passenger airbag so kids love going in the front.
Renewed the XC insurance yesterday. It crossed my mind that I can tax, mot and insure teh Carlton for less than the XC costs to insure! However thats a whole other thread!
