Default Am I missing something?

Please excuse my ignorance. This is my first Volvo, a 2016 MY manual D5 XC60 SE Lux nav. It has buttons on the floating console which allow me to select sat nav, media, (such as cd, i-pod etc), telephone and 'sensus'.
Sorry, but for the sake of me I cannot understand the function/point of 'sensus'.
I've tried reading the on-line owners manual, but the little information there is still fails to help me understand.
Please, in plain English, would a member of the forum be kind enough to explain to me what benefit selecting it provides.

I've also received my Volvo Selekt owners booklet today. In the letter accompanying it, staff inform me I benefit from MOT insurance cover, which co-incidentally expires on the date of the earliest opportunity to give the car its first MOT test. (Unless I choose to MOT the car before that date). Honestly, I put my hands up, is it me, am I missing something?

Sensus is the Volvo name for the Sat Nav. Does this help ?
Not sure about the MOT, but I would get it done the day before the policy expires (in the same way as you would try to get a service done close to the end of the warranty period - not so easy if your services are triggered by mileage rather than calendar years).

Firstly, thank you for replying so quickly NigelDay. I am puzzled as to why there is both a Nav button and a Sensus button if they are the same.

you can get an MOT done up to 28 days before it runs out, but it won't start until the actual expiry date.
Which is great, because you get a month to fix anything. Don't leave it till the day before!!

Actually so am I. Mine is MY16 and I have no button labelled Sensus. I have a Globe symbol, but that is for the 'Sensus App'.
Could you post a picture ?

Hi NigelDay, yep, same thing, it's a globe symbol, it's not actually marked 'sensus'.

AndrewPain, yes I know of the 28 day facility, the date the cover expires is on that 'maximum' date, I.e a month before it has to be done. As NigelDay says, the only way to benefit from the 'cover' is to have the MOT done before 2years and 11 months after date of first registration. The small print in the booklet says the policy covers the vehicle's first MOT at 3 years of age, however the letter says otherwise. I have sent them an e mail asking for clarification.

So this takes you to the Apps - don't get too excited - there are a few useful ones, but some very rarely of use. You need an Internet connection.

What is there that may be useful? I realise it is all down to personal taste.

I own the same spec as you and have full in-car internet access..........and must admit apart from using it a few times when I first got the car I have never used it since.
I cannot see the purpose for it, it's SOoo slow and when you have a smart phone in your car anyway that is so much faster there is no purpose to use it.

Agree. It might have been useful before we (nearly) all had smartohones, but in 2017, it is well past retirement date.
