Default Radio questions

My recently purchased 960 has a SC-805 head unit, the handbook I have for it doesn't show this HU so am I correct in thinking that this is a later "upgrade" and wouldn't have been available/an option on a 1995 960? Secondly a chance discovery on my part is that in the boot fairly tight up under the parcel shelf is a small round connector[looks like the sort that plugs into a multi-changer]plus bound to this is a black electrical connector that has a red wire and a black wire going to it would these in fact be for a multi-changer or for something else entirely?

That boot wiring sounds very like the data (round connector) and audio (red nad black, left and right phono plugs usually) wiring for a CD changer.

Are there any brackets under th parcel shelf?

No no bracketry or fixings under the parcel shelf, just two speakers[sub woofers like my Omega has?].The wiring/lead does look to me like a factory installation though as opposed to an aftermarket/d.i.y. job.

Hmmmm, a bit of a puzzle, it is.

It could be the round plug and red and black wires are audio and power instead of what i suggested further up. If that is the case, they could have been for an active crossover to feed the sub-woofers (if that's what they are) with the right frequencies and amplify it somewhat.

Any chance you can get some pics of the wiring that's there?

That's useful, thanks. The plug with the red & black wires going into it is a power pplug. The round one is either data and/or audio. If you look at the pic which shows the speaker as well, roughly central between the two speaker mounting screws there are two holes that have previously had screws/bolts in. This suggests something was mounted uner the parcel shelf.

I'd hazard a guess this was a CD changer or possibly an amplifier for the speakers that don't appear to be wired up. Unfortunately i'm now as mcuh in the dark as you are on this as i don't know the model that well.
All my experience of the 7/9xx has been on the 7xx and then only estates. I'd think that if the main head unit is from a later car, during the previous owners custody of the car, they had a different head unit and a CD changer in it that they wanted to keep for their next car and fitted the SC-805 to sell the car.

The SC 805 was mainly used in the 850 , a good set !
The cable in the boot IS for a CD changer there is no data, as it an analogue device ... you get the 4 audio channels and a live signal from the radio to turn on the CD Changer .

Excellent, thanks gents,I can now se about sourcing a multi-changer for this one[as well as one for the V70 which also has a SC-805 in it albeit with a grey front not a black front as the 960 has].

No data? How does the head unit tell the CD changer which disc to play, whether to skip or repeat a track and so on?
Some sets even send the audio via data and let the head unit use DACs inside it to decode it.
There is also a permanent live feed to the changer so you can eject the cartridge even with the keys in your pocket.
