Oh dear, sorry to hear that!

I would suggest you pop the lights out, throw any rough wiring in the bin and re-make it as new. Fixing what is already there may prove to be more difficult than starting from scratch

Question

Excellent guide, but drifting off topic slightly, has anyone with a phase 2 changed to using Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs (The 90% ones) as I would like to know if they improved the dipped beam performance.
With standard bulbs I would describe the performance in dipped beam as only average, so I am looking to improved that without doing anything expensive. The main beam performance is good as far as I am concerned, as you can't use it too often where I live anyway.

Try driving on standard p1 headlight!! Your description of the p2 with standard bulbs will change to "awesome"!!!!!

Thumbs up

I haven't attempted to do this with my ole 'R' reg phase 1, but after seeing this guide I'm very tempted to have a go myself. Might be able to see where I'm going at night then!

Possibly a stupid question but what type of wire is used to make the connections? I tried searching around but could find the answer.

Cheers

The wire doesn't have to be anything special, just grab some cheap 3 core mains wire from Wilkos ets and it will be more than man enough for your needs

firstly thankyou so much for doing this guide!
just finished doing it myself and I wouldnt have even thought about it otherwise!

I converted to a 5 pin headlight, this in many ways was simpler as you only need to match up the corresponding wires on the old headunit, and match them to the five coming out of the loom on the new headlights, the 3 to the adjuster also need corresponding. then you just need to do step 35 (the under steering wheel colum bridging) and your away!

Thanks again!!!

Question Help

can anyone help, i am attempting this conversion (phase 1 to phase 2) but have a problem, on my 2000 V40, 2.0T the wires into the old phase 1 lights are different colours to the ones in this thread, mine are
Drivers side= Red/Green, Blue/Red & Black with small side light being 1 Black & 1 Yellow.
Passenger side= Blue/White, Green/White & Black with small side light being 1 Black & 1 pink.
can anyone tell me which colour goes to which pin on the 4 pin Phase 2 Headlights and the same with the small side light, pleeeease
