Default Crash Testing

Volvo has taken it's envious record on crash testing of its new models to new heights!

Interesting article and video...........

Great article - good to see that they're still doing pioneering work and finding ways to simulate crashes that will then benefit all of us through developments in the future (be that car safety or extraction developments).

That side impact onto the concrete block is brutal.

No crash test dummies though..... Guess they were worried about the PR of what injuries would have been sustained. No vehicle, however safe, is infallible....

It would have been more interesting if other makes of cars had been dropped to see a comparison.

You’re not wrong about the concrete block. Very brutal. Wish there were more angles of that one.

I’m not sure how much that was about crash testing, more about creating mangled wrecks for the fire and rescue to play with.

Not sure how survivable those crunches would be, especially the secondary impacts by which point all your pyrotechnic safety systems would be spent.

That + a great publicity stunt. Quite impressive, nevertheless. Seeing that no glass (not even the panoramic roof!) beyond A-pillar has cracked on the XC40 tells enough of the crumple zone/safety cage design and materials.

Take a look at this pre-airbag crash test - ouch!!!!

7.05 on the following video of old Volvo adverts.

(I tried to upload an edited section, but it failed, citing invalid file type - although it was an mp4 at 1.8MB)
