Default Central Locking Problems

Hi, firstly thanks to all that replied to my ? about tyres for the S60, secondly i am having problems with the central locking on the S60, in that when using either the remote fob or the interior buttons for locking the doors, they are all locking but then either one or two doors are re-opening. The alarm is activating because it sounds as soon as you open one of the "unlocked" doors. Has anyone experienced this before on their Car and does anyone know anythings that i might be able to check before it goes into Volvo later next week (this is the earliest thry can do it) The problem is getting very frustrating having to stand in a car park trying to lock the car either manually or by the remote! any suggestions would be VERY MUCH appreiciated. Cheers

Hi,

Mine started to do this at the end of last Year on the passenger door. I'd assumed it was a duff lock, and booked it into the dealer when I took it in they actually found that it wasn't the lock, but another part (a connecting lever I think). They patched it up as they didn't have the part on the shelf and it worked flawlessly for the next week until I took it in!

I could eventually make the door lock by unlocking/locking but sometimes it took a lot of tries - if you have two doors playing up then I can imagine the frustration!

It would be wise to use the search function too - this sort of problem has been reported before and there may be a non-dealer fix!

This is a common problem on the older S60s (I had 3 locks replaced on my '01 due to exactly this problem!)

Dealer solution is to replace the locking mechanism which is by far the quickest way - I know one member who persuaded his dealer to look at the earthing on his car & since that was done I don't believe has any problems.

Dealer advice to me was to lock the car using the key until fixed. As yet I know of no non-dealer fix (but if you're out of warranty it may be possible to do the job yourself or use a specialist to save on the labour rate!)

I have an 01 s60. Noticed a couple of months ago the doors started 'shocking' -put it down to static electricity in my clothing and extreme winter air...
Yesterday activated central lock with inner lock button (in driver's armrest) - could not unlock using same button had to use the key fob to unlock the car. It happens now intermittently, sometimes the central lock unlocks sometimes it doesn't. I hear a click like it's trying to do something -then nothing. The remote key fob always works though.

Can this be related to the 'shocks' I've been getting and what earthing issue is this?

Also is it something that can be done by an independent? I am out of warranty and dealership labour rates are astronomical!

I'm not too sure what the actual problem was with the earthing - will try to hunt out the thread. As to the shocks, I used to get them on my old 480 and put it down to the same reasoning as you gave (it's those polyester flares again! :D)

Try & find an independent Volvo specialist - they are likely to have VADIS and will be somewhat cheaper than a main dealer!
