I want cruise control
Its a 1989 740 with a B200E and I'm fairly certain K-jet although I've never really confirmed it.
Do volvo do a compatible system, what parts do I need and on which cars can I find it? |

I believe Volvo sell (or used to sell as the case may be) cruise control kits for all the different 740 types. If you buy from the dealer then you need to buy the main cruise kit plus some additional kits depending on what equipment is already installed. E.g. I don't think the three-spool throttle pulley is included and has to be bought seperately. Also, British market cars don't have the necessary cable harness', and I think an extra cable is required for RH drive cars.
I bought a kit from America on ebay but never fitted it - still need the cable harness'. If you do buy from Volvo, let me know how pricey the parts are. BTW, I have a used throttle pulley for sale but would need to check if it fits your car if you want it. William |

There was a kit on fleebay a few years ago, i tried to buy it, but me and the seller couldnt agree a price, and i was a bit weary of the kit as the seller couldnt tell me if everything i needed was included, seemed a very small kit for to add cruise. Best bet i'd say would be to mail the Volvo breakers and find out, they've bound to have done it before.
Then when you find out let me know lol

It's entirely your choice, Chris, but when I got my V70 with cruise control, I thought "great" I've always wanted one of those.
Now I've got one, I find I don't like it because I can't find a benefit. I hoped to save fuel, but I find by better right foot control, I get 5 to 10mpg better. I need a F/C meter to do this. Not answering your question, I know, but I hope helpful. |

I like cruise control but find today's modern motorway traffic means that it's only really useful at quiet times in the UK. For the last 7 or 8 years I have driven 1,300 miles from Yorkshire to friends in France and back every year and on French motorways it's great.
I have cruise on my 960 and to be frank I find it a bit crude compared with the fine tuning I can do with the one on my Dad's Saab 9-3 (GM900 shape). Pete

Chris, likewise ive always wanted cruise on my B230E. I even went as far as buying a cruise control kit from the states for £90!
It wont fit my B230E though so its still sat in my garage. Ive done a fair bit of research for cruise kits for my B230E and pretty much turned up a blank. I fear if i went into my local dealer asking about cruise control for a 20 year old volvo, they would look at me as if i was mad! Vadis wasnt much help either! Over here, its not used that much, my parents have cruise on the mondeo, and its only really used in france, but its a godsend when your over there!

Appologies for going off topic. My 1999 v70 doesn't have cruise, i was fairly sure it would just need a new stick (lots of newer cars are like that) but actually i can't find the wiring. (i have the new stick)
Can it be done? Last edited by JG220; Jan 8th, 2009 at 15:31. |

I'm in no way an expert, but I came across this article about fitting aftermarket CC, not specifically volvo though
