C30 1.6D Transmission oil
Hello everyone, I bought a 1.6D 2007 C30 (5 gear manual) 185k km and noticed that gear changing is a little bit stiff especially the 1st and 2nd gear. There are no weird sounds from the gearbox but I noticed once it didn't want to go in reverse when changing gears while the engine was turned off.
Anyways I was planning on changing the transmission oil hoping it might help with the gear stiffness. I'd like if someone can confirm that the transmission that my car has is MTX-75? I found a few transmission fluids and am not sure if they are good for the car so I'd like if you guys could confirm it. Castrol Transmax Manual FE 75W https://midaoil.rs/proizvod/castrol-...ual-fe-75w-1l/ RAVENOL MTF-2 SAE 75W-80 https://www.ravenol.rs/ravenol-mtf-2-sae-75w-80/ Total Transmission Dual 9 Fe 75W90 https://www.silux.rs/proizvodi/dodat...-9-fe-75w90-1l If I'm in the wrong please do tell what I should look for and any ideas why the reverse problem accured? If you do have the MTX-75 then i believe GL4 75-90 is the correct oil.
The Total one looks right.

I cant see how changing oil will make it easier to select gears?? maybe the cables need adjustment ... Volvo use the finest synthetic oil so as long as it is clean it will be fine. The problem it wont go into R sometimes when the engine is stopped is the straight cut gear wheels did not stop in the aligned position..

I think it's MTX-75 if I'm going by what the wiki for volvo c30 says:
I don't know when the oil in the transmission was last changed since I bought it at 185k km, the car is 16 years old and thought the oil might be dirty/old and lost some of it's properties. I know they say life-time oil but is that even possible? Also now that you say about the reverse thing, you're probably right on that one, thanks! |

Setting aside the question as to whether changing the oil will help the problem, the user manual for these cars say you need transmission oil to the specification "bot 350 m3". Something like https://www.halfords.com/motoring/en...1l-213949.html

Now I'm confused why in the volvo c30 manual it says 1.9l and WSD-M2C200-C which is 75w90? So can I use Castrol Transmax Manual FE 75W, it's for WSS-M2C200-D2 and the oil in your link also says it's for D2? https://volvozone.eu/product/280313-...5w-1l-syntrans shows up in search results for "31280771" Quote:

100ml in the scale of things really doesn't make much difference. Its just a drop, its not like its going to make it significantly high or low. You can't buy 1.8 or 1.9 litres of fluid anyway, you'll have to buy 2 litres (likely 2x 1 litre cans).
I'd go with what Volvo advised, as they have all that info to hand. The car is 17 years old, the manual is the same. Volvo may have changed the specs for transmission fluid since the car was built, hence why the manual says use x fluid and you're being told use another. Go with what Volvo say.
