Jim ... I had to look into this about 9 months or so ago and found these guys on Ebay in Estonia!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/triomotorsiu

I sent them an email and their response was very good good detailing all I needed.

I did not use them as my alternator front bearing has calmed down. I think it was the new cam belt bearings settling down or the alt belt settling in ... maybe a shade too tight!!

Bob

Here you go Jim :

https://www.woodauto.com/product/BRG62032RS

Alternatively :

https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p1...duct_info.html

£3.05 + VAT from Simply Bearings, can't remember if they charge P&P on top. If memory serves Wood Auto have a minimum order so the chances are the Simply bearings one will be much cheaper.

I would have been looking for a local reconditioning guy. But I suppose that it’s obvious that whoever that was must obtain the parts from somewhere. I presume that if one has the expertise and knowledge and the kit, once the bearing is out it has some identification marks.

Yep all bearings are marked with a part number.

I double-checked my memory from reconditioning alternators by using the parts look up on the Wood Auto site - just as well i did as i remembered it as a 6302 but it's a 6203 instead.

If the bearing is noisy, the brushes will also be worn.

Replace front and rear bearings, replace the brushes. Since you will have it completely apart at that stage, also check and machine the slip rings - just a VERY light skim to get them back to flat will make hte new brushes last longer.

Dave has the right front bearing number - iirc the rear is a 6201.

Use the sealed bearings. Rating is pretty immaterial as the rotational speed and load is not that high

The Bosch alternator is about as reliable as a hammer, unless its been thoroughly abused, that should be all it needs.

Spot on with the Slip Ring End bearing Ash - 6201 - here's the Wood Auto page giving their part numbers for the various compnents in that alternator :

https://www.woodauto.com/bom/33516

They always used to be trade only, not sure if that's the case still but the part numbers are useful for searching on fleabay. For example, the voltage reg/brushbox inc brushes :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-VOLT-1...8/282013766854

Found using "VRG4641" on ebay.
