leaking windscreen
I have just replaced the screen rubber on my 1967 Amazon, still leaks, put some goop round it, still is leaking. How can I put a stop to this?

RE: leaking windscreen
My 120 has had a leaking windscreen for years and I put goop in to no avail. I assume that the only way I can fix it is to have it completely reinstalled - carefully.
PS if you find any tips on this I would love to know. mike_arnold@tesco.net |

RE: leaking windscreen
did screen fit properly in the first place?
if yes then it wasn't fitted properly There is a rubber mastic that can be used but first if you want a good job the screen should be fitted dry to ensure the fit is correct. Screens do vary and sometimes if repaired/restored the welding is not accurate and the fit is not correct. this means correct repair until screen fits correctly I have fitted screens myself but i now prefer a windscreen company who have done an excellent job maybe because he used to do MG's and took an interest in the car Ads a matter of interest i asked tony barrett at south motors if he could guarantee my screen would not leak if he fitted it and he said no. My experience with mobile windscreens shows me that it is possible, though i know a lot of people have difficulty. if you want further info do ring 01225 310245 |

RE: leaking windscreen
To establish exactly where the leak is occuring run a hosepipe under light to moderate water pressure tight up against the screen joint and move slowly around the screen. You will probably need someone in the car to tell you when drips appear. This will isolate the exact area (s) of the bad seal. Then use a sealing compound on the affected areas only. Note. Do not spray water all over the screen only close up against and slowly around the screen joints. The idea is to force water through the bad joints only. Aim water both upwards and downwards into the joints.

RE: leaking windscreen
Is it the windscreen leaking?? could be coming in through bulkhead...also use clear silicone around edge to stop capillary water creep.. it worked for me!!

RE: leaking windscreen
I have just sealed my new screens, front and rear.
Use a non-setting black mastic suitable for glass and rubber, 3M do a good one. Squeeze plenty of mastic under the rubber and between the window surround. The mastic should push out in a continuous line all aroun the screen (only that way can you tell that the seal, is continuous). Cleaning up is messy but t achieves the result! |
