Default V50 map.

I bought a TDI tuning box for V50 1.6 diesel driveE and when I fitted it it just 'pinked' all the time like a petrol engine, sure there was a bit more power but boy did it rattle on acceleration!

I ended up getting a refund as they couldn't sort it. I wondered if it has been chipped already?? it does seem pokey for 114 bhp engine.

Is there any way of telling? I can't see a tuning box anywhere unless the ECU has been done.

any thoughts?

cheers, Tom.

I would never recommend tuning boxes, always go for a custom chip. It does cost just a little bit more money but it is well worth it.

a 1.6D is not the fastest, but because of the low end torque it still feels pretty quick in my experience. it feels ALOT quicker than my 1.8L petrol which has more bhp but only in the higher rev range.

it could well be that it is already chipped, but if you get a custom chip tune they can quite easily tell you if it has original engine software.

Cheers for that, I think if I want to go any further that'll be what I do.

Thanks,
Tom.
