V70 D5 2002 maybe for sale...

Subject to confirmation of gearbox failure my mums V70 will be available to anyone who can tow or trailer it away plus ideally a few quid our way. There are a few people locally who may also take it but thought I'd mention on here too.

If I had the space I'd break it.

Quick summary:
2002 model
D5 auto
184K miles (roughly)
No towbar
Cosmos blue metallic
Black leather - drivers seat bolster has gone
Mechanically well looked after with everything done that needed it, with Volvo parts usually by myself over the last 7+ years.
A bit rough around the edges, usual wheel corrosion, a few bumps here and there.

Well, no fault codes found (VIDA 2014).

Drove ok today although the garage didn't drive too far.

Thoughts are that the oil is goosed, its never been changed and is very dark.
They did give us the option to flush and change using the proper volvo method (one of the guys is an ex-volvo workshop employee). However mum doesn't want the faff and is set on getting a fresher one now... possibly S40 or something a bit smaller.

So, hers is for sale with the caveat that at the minimum the gearbox oil needs changing which DIY with the right oil is around £200 and 3-4hrs time.. including a cup of tea or two!

Drop me a PM if there is any interest, we are obviously not talking mega money here given the age and gearbox oil.
£500 would be nice... but we are being realistic and don't want it sitting around outside for ages so offers welcome!

I'm not sure it would make it back to Durham! that would definitely be a tense drive! If you can find a way of getting it back (trailer etc) we could hang on to it for a couple of weeks if that helps. I suspect trailer cost will be the killer though.

Many Thanks David, too far for me unfortunately. It's a shame you can't drop the ATF out 3 or 4 times to see if it would put the gearbox right. I'm pretty sure someone local will bite your hand off. Thanks again

One thing to add is that the off side inner tie rod end needs replacing, there is a fair bit of play there.

I am not interested in the car however I did want to mention have you not thought of changing the oils yourself?

Having just carried this out myself (xc90) you could do it at home in couple of hours east with 100 quid worth of fluid (max)

Hiya, its a possibility if I can find the time to do it, like you say its only a couple of hours to do and is pretty straight forward.
Mum has another car now so she is sorted at least.

Would there be any interest here if I sorted the inner tie rod and flushed the gearbox oil? I've 5ltrs of the correct spec oil left over from a job on another car and to buy another 7ltrs isn't going to break the bank. Both are fairly straight forward jobs.
