Auto electrician needed for XC90 - South Manchester
XC90 T SE AWD SEMI AUTO 2521cc, petrol.
Interior heater blower motor making a racket - so took it it in to my local garage. They got the old motor out quite easily and on testing it was a faulty bearing and was seized.. They ordered and fitted the correct new part but it wasnt working. They tested the resistor and they said it had an electrical fault. They got a new resistor and bypassed the old resistor - but still not working. So they believe it is an electrical fault somewhere and beyond their expertise and have recommended me to take it to an Auto-electrician. What I am thinking is to take it in to get diagnosed on VIDA first and take it from there. There are a couple of Volvo garages close by - one independent (Hallmark) one MD (Rybrook) that would do that. Is anyone on here able to help or recommend anyone else with "electrical" expertise ? Any other suggestions/options/thought are welcome - particularly on what usual suspects might be at fault. Thanks for any input. John |

Forgive me, but as you describe it, it sounds as if they have no idea what they are doing.
"bypass the resistor" - what does that mean? And why would that be necessary? It's a simple replacement of old for new, *if* that is indeed required. From what you describe the blower was noisy but hence running when you took it in and if that was the case, there's nothing wrong with the "resistor" (it's actually a FET-based regulator). Sounds like they've buggered something up, possibly using the wrong part(s). I'd take it to an independent at this point. VIDA is unlikely to provide any diagnostic insight in this area but it's a simple setup and a decent garage should be ok with it.

All the best with it. Unless they've done something monumentally silly it should be easy enough for a competent garage to straighten out.
