Can I remove the upper "fender" sound deadening

Hi quick question,

I have followed this very useful video, but noticed My v70 has an extra sound deadening foam above the wheel. So on mine there are 4, 2 per side.

Getting the top one back in was a complete PITA, I assume Mr VolvoSweden just didnt bother.

Is this a problem to just not replace them when I try to dry them out (they were all soaking wet. Or I may remove the front wing to replace them next time.

I replaced a wing on my old V50 a few years back and noticed mine were soaking..... Just where they sat the wing had rusted so I left them out and stored them in the bin. Noticed no difference at all with them removed...

Seems to me that Volvo made a mistake when specifying the sound deadening material. What they needed to have fitted was moulded foam inserts with an sealed impenetrable surface, a concave top and a central drain hole right through the moulding to allow water to drain through without being absorbed into the foam. What they did was cheap and nasty and looks like it can act as a corrosion poultice on the wing.

Awesome, I will remove it next time I can be bothered to take the wheel and wheel arch out. Luckily mine isn't showing signs of rust.... yet. I might copy Mr VolvoSweden and better protect those cables though, as mine currently are well protected by the foam.

Yeah a polystyrene solution would have been much better. and lighter etc.
