Question V60 DrivE (2011) Towing

Going to be new to caravan towing, has anybody else out there got the same car that they use for caravanning.

Just wondering what it is like to tow with ?

Thanks in advance

I have been using a V70 Drive (115 stop start) for the last 3 years towing a well laden 1250 kg caravan, 4 bikes, two teenagers, awning, etc. I am sure that we are pushing the limits of what the car can do. The car coasts in 6th gear comfortably and has done many miles, crossing France several times etc. Some motorway hills can cause the need to change down often to 5th gear, sometimes to 4th and occasionally 3rd.

This summer, coming back across France on an exceptionally hot day, we did get a couple of overheating warnings "Reduce engine speed" and had to let it cool down for a while, but everything was fine after that.

My 2012 car has now done 102,000 and I have a D3 V70 on order.

Generally, the car coped well but the engine is a bit on the small side and can run out of puff. Also, steep slopes (like they sometimes put you on ferries) can cause the clutch to smell horrid!

To sum up, don't rule out towing a caravan with a Drive or D2, but don't expect miracles or try to do too much. The limit of 1300kg is a bit restrictive but probably as much as the car could manage.

Thanks Wheelnut.

I was thinking of changing the car, I have been looking at caravans around the 1100kg mark,on the camping and caravanning website, they do a Towmatch service, so there are a few caravans around that my car will tow safely.

So i'll sick with what i've got.
