Default Spoke too soon

Was thinking how well my car was going yesterday after recent MAF issues , when suddenly lost all power. ( 1.9d 115hp ). Car ticks over fine but not enough power to pull away , quite a bit of smoke when I did get it moving but would not pull more than second gear and 20 mph , had to leave it at a friends house and going back to investigate today. Any ideas ?

did it go with a whooshing noise?

A while ago I had a leaking intercooler pipe and had to replace it. Probably didn't clean one of the connections properly and it popped off on a motorway slip road under heavy acceleration. No power and black smoke.

My point being, check the pipes from the turbo at the rear to the bottom of the intercooler at the front then back over from the top of the cooler to in intake manifold at the top rear.

Very strong solution of dish soap in a spray bottle with gentle acceleration and you may find either bubbles but most probably you will see air blowing onto the area you sprayed. Probably a damaged silicone hose or one that has come off. Hope this helps.

If it's got a hole you could bodge it with duct tape and cable ties tightly wrapped around.

Default It lives !

Re my recent post of lack of power and a lot of smoke I took the old girl to my local well trusted garage for inspection , The fault was the EGR valve not working
They fitted a new one and she runs like a dream. £55 pounds to diagnose and fit the new valve , good value I think ! Highly recommend Hennel Vehicle Services , Rotherfield Greys. Near Reading and Henley on Thames

That is good value seeing as an Egr valve is at least £80 on its own!
