In urban areas, it's just another bit of noise — people only notice if it goes on for ages, so it goes unnoticed.
And if people notice and challenge them, they are threatened. By the time police arrive they have probably already weighed it in and spent the money!

Default Stolen Cat

Unfortunately this goes on because some scrap metal places do not care where the metal comes from. I thought that they were all supposed to be licensed now and monitored but that appears to be not the case.

I was looking for the opening time of our local Sainsbury's this morning and noticed that one review for the store in November was from someone having their cat. stolen while shopping. They said that despite notices in the car park, the security cameras were not working.

Where I worked (nearby) a couple of years ago, one of our sales managers had the cat. stolen from his Honda in the middle of the day. They parked in front of his car in the staff car park and were in and out in minutes. The ironic thing was that one of the sales office staff was returning from lunch and wandered over to them and was told "No problem mate, we've got it sorted now."

They were gone in minutes and it was all captured on CCTV from two cameras. Don't know what happened in the end as I left the company shortly after, but presume these scroats are still unidentified and in business!

It's pretty kak when you think about it:

- the standard 850 cats are worth more than the newer ones
- they are easier to steal
- they usually take 30-90s to get it done, think about the time it takes for a home owner to realise there is an alarm/noise outside...decide to look outside...and then decide to actually do something...a lot more than 90s
- if someone does confront them then they're usually in a group with spanners ready to threat with violence
- if you call the police...you'll only get a crime number to make a potential claim to your insurer...which will only increase your claim for the next few years

I've noticed a few cars driving around since my incident sounding like their cat is missing. To a lot of people not in the know it may just sound like a loud exhaust issue which they will get checked out when they have time.

Not all of us can park next to a wall or right up against another car...so I was wondering on installing tilt sensors but even if the alarm goes off they still wouldn't stop as they're so quick.

Seems there's a lot more of it going on nowadays, 5 cars in our overspill carpark at work were done on Tuesday evening/night, unfortunately security don't have much sight of the overspill and there are people coming and going most of the time, so a couple of scrotes in a car could have done it at any time.

Jesus Christ.

I’m in the wrong job.
Actually no. I don't want to be a lowlife scrote causing misery for thousands of motorists.

Cheers

Nice to see that some authorities somewhere are taking this seriously.
