Tony, this is exactly my problem I have posted about on here. My only fault code is 'missing speed signal' and after flooring it the car stays idling at about 1500rpm until you restart, which it is not always convenient to do, so it is a complete pain. So does that mean if I get my speedo fixed that my high revving issue after flooring it should definitely go away?

Oh dear! Touching that is a big NO-NO and you may have added to your problems. Getting it to the right position isn't easy, you might think you put it back where it was but it's doubtful.

It's probably close enough for now until we solve the high idle when hot but you may have to have a faff about later to reset the throttle butterfly to give the correct base idle speed that if memory serves is 600rpm on yours but i'd need to check.

Think normal idle will be 750 or 775 Dave.

Yes Mark but Don has disturbed the base idle setting of 600rpm (i still need to double check that) so that needs to be sorted once we find out why the ECU is racing the engine.

NO!!!!

Leave it be for now Don, let's sort the other problem and then sort this one - if there is an air leak for example causing the high idle, you may end up overcompensating the base idle which needs to be set with the EICV disabled and/or blocked off, if you have an idle air bypass screw on the throttle body (a big knurled knob with an insert for an Allen key) that needs screwing all the way in as well then the throttle buterfly needs to be set to give the correct base idle speed.

Yes probably, but it's likely not the speedo (output device), I'd look for problems at the sender on the differential or wiring. On mine the wiring was touching the body and eventually shorted out intermittently. It's also a common problem on B230FT transplants to 360s.

Jiggling all the wiring around behind the ashtry in the fusebox area makes the speedo work again for a while.

Does that stop the high idle problem Ellie?

If so, it might be worth narrowing down which wire exactly is the culprit and then giving the ends of that and the termial it goes onto a good clean.

Tbh Dave, when the speedo worked for a few days after the wiring got jiggled around I was too busy concentrating on a starting problem at the time.

I'll get the speedo, the high revving after flooring it and the having to start with full throttle sorted I am sure, these are the car's only issues.

The speedo passes MOT and I have the satnav as a speedo. The high revving after an big overtake has been a big problem lately as I wasn't confident to restart after doing so one morning and causing a big rush hour traffic jam. Thanks to Bob I can now restart over and over at the first start of the day if I screw up first time but I don't know if I have the restart issue after 20 minutes that he has with the new starting procedure, I will have to find out by trying to restart when I arrive at work one morning this week.
