Alarm randomly going off
Had it a while ago, alarm went off a few nights on the trot and then just stopped.
8 months down the line and it's doing it again. 3 nights consecutively. 2am, 5.15am and 5.25am. Any ideas what could be causing it? Common problem?

It's an electronic fault so the VIDA/Dice diagnostic would give you a clue as to the alarm component which was failing but it wouldn't help with a rogue spider living in a movement sensor!
Owning your own VIDA/DiCE is not expensive and would pay for itself.

It could be a low battery in the alarm siren module.

I have vida/dice. I will hook it up over the weekend and see what I can find.

Where is the battery located? How can you measure the state of the battery? Vida/dice?

The battery, which resembles the kind of units wired into cordless phones is inside the siren unit which is not officially a repairable part and Volvo will only replace the whole siren, but many owners have carefully opened the siren unit and bought suitable batteries on line and fitted them into the unit and this has solved their problems. Worth searching for siren unit battery replacement posting.
This video shows the sort of work needed to replace the battery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yu8TYyZ0PIM

Its probably the original battery that's inside the siren (that wouldn't surprise me). The alarm going off randomly is mostly related to the alarm siren itself or the battery inside it - Its a very common issue on Volvo's. It could also be a door that isn't locking properly. Your best bet would be check the fault codes with VIDA before taking anything apart. As the alarm has been going off randomly, the vehicle computer should have stored some kind of fault.

It may be the "bonnet open" switch triggering the alarm - mine has started to do it (I also get the "bonnet open" warning on the dash sometimes). I think it's a common fault.

I have had the "bonnet open" latch switch fault but since the sensor has its own "Bonnet Open" warning the car would tell you if the fault lay there. If there is no dashboard warning, it is unlikely to be the bonnet latch switch.
