Default Camber

Hi guys

Wondering if anybody can help? (But dreading the response. As think it’ll not be +ve)

My D5 C30 has started to shred the inner edge of my two front tyres. This started after I got 2 new (NON Volvo) wishbones and fitted them myself!
I thinking that I didn’t check closely enough and they maybe differed by a few millimetres and this has thrown out my camber angle?

Is there an EASY way to fix this?
I’m thinking at the bottom end, no. But at the top end moving the top of the strut might work? Elongate the 3 mounting holes? Or even get a bespoke kit (that I’ve seen on a few sites)?

The car is coming to its 200,000 mile birthday, so reckon this is just to see us through the next year or so.

Can’t afford to keep buying tyres for the front every 6-12 months!!!

Thanks in advance

P

They would have measured and recorded the camber as well.
Was it within tolerance? Or not?

Ian

They just said it was spot on

Having just looked at the top of my struts, I don’t think I can alter that as the anti-roll bar is held in place with those fixings too

Would a tyre size change help/hinder things?

I changed a good few years ago to 225/40/18. It didn’t seem to change anything at the time but am thinking I should go back to ‘stick’ size, to see if that helps??

Anyone know the original size I should be running? I’m thinking 215/45/17???

PS 17” diamond cut alloys 😉

What are the perfect alignment figures for a C30 on 17” rims?

Hi
Worth checking tyre pressures, the camber on the rear on my V50 caused inner edge tyre wear. I now run on Eco tyre pressures and it has stopped it. Been running on the Eco tyre pressures for about 8 years with no problems.
Also if the previous control arms were worn the tyres might be worn from then. Eco tyre pressures should reduce further wear.
Worth checking with the tyre place to see if they recorded/ checked the front camber. I always get given a printed sheet with all the readings on. If the camber is ok, new tyres and Eco tyre pressures should sort it.
If the camber is actually out you would need to sort that first, either better quality control arms or rebush the old ones?
You do need to know if the camber is actually correct or not, first.
I am on 205 50 17.(on a V50) Will check on my last print out when I get up!! If I find it I will post a copy

Iain

Cheers Ian

I'm pretty sure mine used to always have 215/45/17, but I changed a while ago and can't remember.
Only thing that bothers me is, would the extra height in side wall/profile (45 or 50 instead of 40) make the camber worse???
