Default ECU swopping??

Well simple question really has anybody tried swopping ecu's between cars,

Ie- if i got one from a scrappers and put it in my s40 would it work, if not is there any way to make it work, its a 01 s40 2.0t with siemans ecu,

Question as to why i want to swop it is i think my 2.0t engines about had it, pressurising cooling system even after having headgasket replaced and why put another 2.0t engine in there when a T4 lump drops straight in,

So when i swop engine (when it eventually lets go) i would like to swop 2.0t ecu for a T4 one

ref the ecu change, when we did this in the factory we hand to reprogram the keyset etc to the ecu as it had the codes for the imobiliser etc in there...

other than that if we had a duff ECU we just swapped them out, so if you get a different engine and matching ECU as long as all th I/O (inputs / oututs are present and correct) then you should have no major issues....(happy to be proven wrong here...)

I am sure reprogramming the keyset imobilisers to the new ecu can be done in the market.. not sure of who or cost i'm afraid....

Best of luck, keep us posted throgh the the projects link...

Plugging car upto vadis (vida) isn't a problem to put software in,

Just didn't want to end up locking the car or the engine ecu's out by swopping things, done engine swops on pugs and citroens and stuff before but not on a s40,

Think it will be a few months before i get round to changing engine, taking car off road at weekend as i don't want to damage anything else, ie blowing rad apart etc, plus trying to find a decent low milage T4 (B4204T5) lump is proving difficult at moment
