Exclamation Charging fault

Hi, really hoping someone can help. I had my xc90 t8 on charging at a roadside charging station. When I returned to the car the car had stopped charging with a partial charge and the charging unit had stopped working and my cable was locked into the unit. An engineer had to be called out to release my cable and said that the unit had suffered some electrical failure. Ever since then my car has not charged from any cable and my volvo service say that some unit in the car no longer works. My question is this; I think the charging station caused the unit in the car to fail but the company (Source) say their units are fail safe from damaging a car, has anyone experience of this?

I've no personal experience as I have an old V60 D6 PHEV that I only plug in at home, but someone did reply to a thread of mine last week that he'd seen 3 cars of different makes having to be released from Tesco chargers by the breakdown services ? Good luck.
