Exclamation Engine management light on

I appaulogise if this has already been talked about but haven't been able to find anything on this.

I have a s80 1.6drive 59 plate

I have had a message come up as I start the car saying poor engine performance, but goes away as soon as I start to drive.

Now it's brought on the engine management light.
I've been told disconnecting battery should reset this. But recently I have found the car taking longer to fire up.

Is there a way I can check for a code to what is up.?
I know this could be done on the older cars pre 08.

Hopefully giving me a place to start to work out what's up and hopefully fix without putting it in again to a garage to in my opinion. Get ripped off.

I love this car but seem to be throwing money at it.

Any help on this would be wonderful.

Now leaving to take battery out

Hi,

What you really want to do is get the car connected to a dealer or indie and find out what code or codes are being logged. Otherwise you are really shooting in the dark.

I had my DPF and EGR replaced with OEM for just shy of £800. Go to a good indy mate.
