V70 2.4D 163 Vibration and possible Vac issue
Hi all,
I’ve just joined the forum and would really appreciate some guidance if possible please. I own a 2006 V70 2.4 D 163 Geartronic I’m happy with the car other than the issue with the engine mounts and vacuum issues that I have. When I bought the car it had a really bad vibration at 1500rpm that resonates throughout the cabin. I had the car serviced at my local Volvo specialist (even though it was done 2k before I bought it). The car has covered 129k with FSH. I was advised that the engine mounts were worn and had all 5 changed including the gearbox torque mount, using Volvo original parts and also the vacuum hoses to the mounts and back to the valve mounted on the air box. Some days the car can start and drive fine but other days it is back to resonating through the cabin and popping on initial start up (but I guess this is just vacuum building up. I also get a bass type noise when idling that seems to kick in and out, this appears to be coming from the pipe that comes from the EGR running towards the back of the engine. I have bought a vacuum tester and there doesn’t appear to be any links from the vacuum pump or the mounts. I also had the engine carbon cleaned but has made no significant difference. I looked online to check which way the vacuum system was set up with the vac hose from the pump connecting to the valve clipped on the air box to check that the pipe was fitted correctly and back out to the engine mount hose (it would be great if someone could confirm this as to weather it connects to the side or the bottom from the pump).. There are no turbo boost issues or fault codes stored. I’ve just had another oil and filter service carried out (that’s 3 changes in less than 6k. I really like the car but I don’t know if I can suffer this irritating vibration much longer. Any advice would be appreciated as I am driving myself crazy Many thanks in advance John |

On mine there was a clip holding brake pipes to the bulkhead on the passenger side, under the passenger wiper area. The clip looked ok but definitely didn't hold the pipes securely, it caused a terrible vibration. I replaced the clip and peace has been restored! Worth a look.

Thanks
I did actually notice a bit of engine oil at the ends of the vacuum pipes when I changed them. Could this possibly be the seals in the vacuum pump? If so,is it much of a job to change either the pump or the seals? Thanks 🙏 |

Its not a massively diffcult job but two of the 3 bolts are hard to see. As long as you've got some socket extensions you should be fine.
Below pictures below are with the high pressure pump removed so you can better see the vaccum pump. The bolt highlighted in red is hard to see with HP pump in place but you certainly dont need to remove the HP pump for access. Just worth noting the position of the bolt so you dont confuse it with the bolt for the HP pump (which I did). They are quite close together: Third bolt is on the opposite side, which again isn't that easy to see. Access is a bit tight, but its not the end of the world. |

Thanks for that. And I just buy the rubber seals and reinstall?
Could this be the cause of the oil getting into my vacuum pipes?? Thanks |
