[QUOTE=RoyMacDonald;382206]I'd check the handbook for you but the club changes the password acess every 8 weeks and I've always "put the club magazine somewhere safe" by the time I want to use it so I can never get into the club site. (The most annoying aspect of the club for me) I can always find all the old issues of course. Never the current one. If the mag turns up I'll check for you if someone else hasn't done it by then.

I will wait for info!

The handbook on the club web site for your year is the Canadian one for some reason. (Volvo is living in the past in Canada it seems. Non synthetic changed every 7,000 miles!) They only have the 2007 European one on the club site. It says.....

Oil decal When the oil decal shown alongside here is in
the car’s engine compartment, the following
applies. See location on page 242.
Oil grade: ACEA A1/B1
Viscosity: SAE 5W–30
When driving under adverse conditions, use

The site won't let me upload the file as per usual! But it seems you should have a decal in the engine compartment that says what oil should be in it, but the handbook also says you can use a higher spec oil if you wish.

For anyone else who shops at Costco on a budget, they have Chevron 5W40 synthetic for £9.89 for 4L + VAT. A3,B3 spec, but not B4.
The nice man at Texaco, said it was the same stuff as Havoline.
As Texaco will be dropping the Chevron brand here very soon, now's the time to pop into Costco and grab some while the stock lasts.

That's rather odd as a 5W-40W full synthetic should meet the A4/B4 spec automatically. Could be old pre A4/B4 spec stock that hasn't had it label changed. I'd be a bit wary if it is that old. Good price though.

Ahh....I just ran a search on the web and that Chevron is posted as being a group III oil. That's why it can be so cheap.

In my book it's not a synthetic and shouldn't be labeld as such. However it has good petrolem base stock and oil analyis on the Tdi website shows it to be a well performing oil.

The man at Texaco said it was a fully synthetic oil, and not a hydrocracked mineral oil. Also Chevron's web site shows it as made from 100% synthetic base stock.
It's difficult to know who to believe.

Group three oils are hydrocracked base oils, and in the US are alowed to be called synthetic oil after a dubious court ruling. (In my opinion)

In Europe it is still illegal to call them synthetic however, but the man at Texaco may be quoting the US info without realising it's illegal, unless Texaco are selling a different oil in Europe that is.
