So, a bit further down the road, literally and figuratively.
It's been a turbulent six months or so and I have not been focused on cars at all. In the past six months I split with my girlfriend who I was with for 6 years after I found out she was cheating. She took one of our dogs. This past weekend I had to have Aengus, my other dog and my best buddy put down, he'd been with me through thick and thin and was 11.5 yrs old. I got him at 5 weeks. The house is empty and a weird place to be. I have been looking a bit more realistically at all the projects I have running, I count six. Too many. The Coupe's in the UK having a 302/AODE put in by my friend Neil, the rest of the plan is still the same, but probably just leave it with an autobox and spend the money on the doing the suspension up all round. The Combi I still have, contemplated selling it when it wouldn't pass it's inspection, but got the welder out anyway, redid some bushes and tie-rods and it rides better than ever. The old B20 is getting progressively tired though. So the NEW plan is: Buy a Volvo 960 3.0 24v, 204hp donor car. Pull the front seats, put em in the Combi, pull the straight six and put that in the combi. It fits, just need to move the heater somwhere else, and the radiator forward a few inches. I'll either stick with the auto box, but I hear they're slow. So looks like an M90 off a 2.5 24v It's a pretty cheap way to source parts, have tested the engine, have all the bits I need and it's easier than fitting a v8, also I will have a v8 volvo soon So that's the update on my Volvo's. As said before I'll post pics of the whole process, the 302 in the coupe will be up first and then sometime next year comes project Combi. Keep turnin wrenches Cheers Edit: Anyone familiar with these 3.0 24v engines. I see they last forever and seem not to have too many issues to look out for. Any good resources on them for more power. I'll be losing the cat and doing headers and a high flow exhaust and a less restrictive cone filter on the way in. I was thinking en Eaton M90 supercharger could be fun down the line Anybody had a look at this vid? I know you know this wagon...: http://youtu.be/qRoODLZ2WQY Last edited by DQ81; Dec 8th, 2011 at 15:56. |

Its a toyota/lexus 1uzfe. They come in LS400's, Soarers, SC400's. 230hp or so stock, all aluminum or aluminium depending on where you live. My plan is a single turbo down the road which on a stock block will easily net you 4-500whp. They are an incredibly well engineered engine.

1997 and newer were I believe have variable valve timing, that would be where the extra hp comes from.

just found a Soarer and a 400 locally for 200 more than the Volvo's.
Well that's that then! hahahah Screw that 302/AODE, I'm going Lexus! I've got my eye on a 1947 Ford 4 door with the origional Flathead in it, if I can get that I'll stuff that 302 in there or just get rid of it! Bloody hell, decisions decisions. It's all about moeny in the end and 65hp and a bunch of torque AND v8 sound for a couple hundred extra... not much to think about. THANK YOU! |

wait a minute
he's using the ENITRE undercarriage off the Lexus. That's why it fits. You see how far out those wheels stick? I'm going to take measurements. report back after I'm done. Usually if it seems to good to be true... |

Yes I did....I can't remember the width of the strut towers on the stock suspension. If you need any measurements, I have 2 1uz's sitting on the floor. |
