Plus it looks crude and we could do better. I don't want to get hopes up as I need to do this thru the back door but I will start looking into it next week. Just wanted to say thanks to Jon for the offer to use his as a buck. Don't worry there would be no damage. What are people's thoughts as to a reasonable cost for one of these covers? Think we should consider some upgrades, groove in the base to carry an Oring and bin the hopeless cork gasket? Quick release oil filler cap, bolted to the cover itself? Thicker casting to dull the god awful tapping from my engine Russ |

How many different covers can we catalogue on here? Would be great to get a reference guide going. Off the top of my head I can think of.....
Ellemann-Jakobsen Comfort Ruddspeed (either grooved or the standard tin cover with a Rudds plate) Skandix iPD (pre litigation) Nordic Did Bertils - Motor and Alconi ever produce special rocker covers? Derek UK would probably know.

Chris is right, R-Sport didn't come around to later. The early parts were labeled "Volvo Competition Service". On the B20 that I am building I opted for the Weber 38/38 DGMS carb, but I wanted a better manifold and bought the GT one. Here it is for reference:
What if we used Volvo within the title? I like "Volvo Competition Service", and there also is Speed-Man Racing. The newer companies don't offer anything very special, so I would like to stick with an actual B18/B20 tuning company like KG Trimning.

A tough call. I seem to recall seeing these with a removable plate on them - yes/no? Couldn't we do that, and you can put whatever you want on there? I don't REALLY car, but Blue Dolphin is what I'd like mine to say.

The plate is easy.
Buy a cast cover from one of the suppliers mill out the middle, get a company to engrave Blue Dolphin and then glue/rivet to the cover. I like Lukeballs thoughts Volvo competition services. It's period and unlikely that Volvo will get upset as it disappeared years ago. A letter from the VOC may provide dispensation. Wether we can get the whole name on a cover is another thing. Will mock it up today. I'm thinking a similar type face to the Elleman Jacobsen covers, simple but effective. With the larger flutes and less clunky styling of the existing ones. Likes Lukeballs other suggestion, KG Trimning. Well respected tuning company with lots of parts. They may be interested in funding it. I'm over there in June and plan to drop by the factory. However I'm having some work done by them so will raise it as a suggestion. How about VPerformance- nah won't get delivered Amazon Cars? Needs Robs approval but only covers one range really Really like Mitchs idea and the family may really like it as a memorial Gunnar Andersson, would look really good Look at the line just above the pic in this attachment http://www.volvocars.com/intl/top/co...aspx?itemid=16 Volvo-Gunnar Looks cool Now Ruddspeed seem to be a viable entity they may be interested? Anyone have a contact? before we get ahead of ourselves let's consider costs. I'm worried it may still turn out stupidly expensive, above £500 is ridiculous. Below £250 a possibility. Below £100 a non starter. Price of aluminium precludes that. Hopefully will turn out well Russ |

I approached Volvo before about using Volvo on a valve cover and didn't get an answer. I would say if they are being sold they may not like the use of having Volvo on the cover.
KG, Brookhouse, Amazon Cars all may be interested in taking order for a few so may be a way to make enough to keep numbers down. A way round using Volvo Competition Services might be to register it as a company in the UK, and have a small UK after it. So Volvo Competition Services UK. |

Volvo's legal department are likely to get very shirty if you include their name without permission. IPD were "requested" to remove their logo when it was combined with Volvo on their alloy covers. Just plain Volvo seems to be accepted but Volvo Competion Services, which is too long anyway, would I'm sure get the legal thumbs down. Repro'ing any of the existing designs tends to devalue the originals, so many owners of those wouldn't be happy if that happened.
Back yard pattern makers and casters might like this. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=144695 I've got an interesting one in my garage which I'll take some pics of when I'm up there next................................ |
