Default Audio Problems - Desperate need of help :-(

Hi all,

Just a quick reference, I have an early MY2014 S60 with the Sensus system, not the connect - don't have the Web button. Mine is the premium sound system as well.

My drivers side low frequency driver went bad (not completely dead, but horrible paper rattle type noises) , and upon removal to check it and then put it back I think it has killed that channel on the amp altogether now as all the remaining speakers on that side make a sort of click noise 5 times or so upon turn on. The rest of the system then functions as normal sans the speakers on that channel produce no sound at all.

Ultimately - if I need a new amp, where is it located, what part do I need and how much roughly? The low frequency driver I can find on ebay no problem.

I'm absolutely gutted. I do a 150 mile round trip commute every day for work, and only my music keeps me sane. This is going to drive me nuts. I seriously can't afford to spend a huge amount as I've got loads of other stuff going on in my life and this is just wounding me.

Thanks to anybody who can help!

Cheers,
James

Once you find it you could try ebay for one. I seen this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-R...HYZ:rk:28:pf:0

Should not be that difficult to replace. I dont have an amp but in my previous cars it was under the passenger seat. It will have the part number on it.

This one is premium sound https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-S60...frcectupt=true

Thanks for the reply. Both of those are old ones unfortunately. The square looking one is close though, and I've found it under the drivers seat now. Unfortunately looks like the part number is on the bolted down side. I've attached a pic of the connectors. Hopefully this is of some use!

Cheers,
James

Depends how the speakers are wired and the amps set up pull your amp and check the part number through eBay and try a few breakers brokerage sites.

Speakers are speakers if amp can be saved aftermarket speakers may be cheaper than Volvo units may find them with a standard Harmon kardon drive unit adapters might be needed for the doors.

You could call a Volvo dealership and find the part number then have a look for one or just unbolt it if your planning on changing it.

Hi HDAV,

Thanks for your reply. I've slept on the issue, and driven my car this morning and much to my surprise, the channel is alive again! The low frequency driver is still disconnected and I dare not try plugging that back in since it is definitely faulty.

I had a look at the Crutchfield site for suggestions of compatible after market speakers (for me to then find in the UK), but unfortunately they're all 2 piece units (instead of 3 like the premium sound ones are), so the main driver does both low and mid frequency instead of just low.

I've found replacement drivers on eBay but would definitely be interested in an aftermarket replacement that suits if anybody knows of one?

Cheers,
James

I was surprised your amp had failed thou its good now, audio amps have a thing called crowbar protection this if overloaded they can temporarily mute until a reset.

Speaker wise I have been thinking of upgrading my speakers in my XC60, apparently, it makes a huge difference. Have a look for these on Amazon, I am not sure if they are compatible with your S60 but they fit an XC60.

Cheers for your reply, and suggestion on speakers!

I've had a look at their spec, and look good value for money. Is yours the premium system as well? Because the HF component elements are going to be drastically harder to fit than the stock ones (and I'm happy with the stock ones anyway), how well would these LF drivers work with the existing HK system HF and MF drivers?

Cheers,
James

This is a future project for me, a guy in Australia did these mods (I cannot find the link) and he reported great things.
I intend to remove the old front door speakers first to double check these new speakers will fit and then I will order them. The LF/mid unit should just slot in, a little creativity is needed for the tweeter, The Australian guy said they fitted ok with bodge tape, the component kit comes with a passive splitter I will just hard wire that in.
