I admit to most of them apart from 4, 7 and 10.

I get a real kick out of 3, 5 and 8 :)

Might I add one....

What about lip reading the driver behind and seeing how long it takes them to say "bl**dy Volvo drivers" especially whilst you are obeying a 30 mph limit, before losing them in dust when you hit a dual carriageway.

also, when you book it in for a service or a tyre whatever, you never use the word "car". It's always, "i'd like to book my volvo in".

Nice one, Dean!

Doing a U-turn in an impossible place where a small car has just made a mess of doing an n-point turn.

Wearily getting out to inspect the smashed-up front of the car that has just rear-ended you, straightening the tow-ball cover, and remarking, "Oh, it's all right - no damage".

Driving straight into a parking space someone else was just about to reverse into.

trying to persuade everyone in the world to buy volvo seems to be another one. "you don't want one of those, buy a volvo."

And of course, being able to park in a space 2' longer than the car itself - very useful in London! :)

Point 3 is very true! It has taken 37 years for my car to be this scruffy (unrestored and original paint except for the front wings), but it takes a Ford or Vauxhall a fraction of the time.... ;)

Spookily this happened to me this very morning - there is now a silver VW Bora in Edinburgh whose number plate & front bumper are not quite how they should be!

I have a small crease in my driver's door that didn't even crack the paint, but the Peugeot that hit it was towed away. However, bollards DO bend the bumpers :-(

I also stopped a Ford Escort estate car like this on the M1 (near Leeds) a few years back. The front of his car seemed to vanish and the engine block was cracked. It shook loose the normal rusted panel under the tailgate of my 240 estate and damaged the tow ball cover.

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and enjoyed this post and would like to contribute several of my own observations from across the Atlantic...

1) When the nosy, would-be mechanic next door who drives a Ford, Chevrolet, or some other type of American junk snidely asks "What's WRONG with it?" while you are working on your Volvo, you relish the stupefied look on his face when you say "Nothing at all, I'm just replacing the flame-trap." It's even more enjoyable when he, a week later, attempts to replace the flame-trap on his pickup truck. You do, however, feel somewhat bad when he catches the thing on fire in the process.

2) You bring your own oil filters to the 10 minute oil change garage.

3) You do not allow the 19 year old running said 10 minute oil change garage to "inspect" anything else on your car -- just to "change the oil and be done with it."

4) You ad nauseum extoll the virtues of rear-facing foglights to all of your friends and workmates. (Most US cars don't have them)

5) You non-chalantly wave at all other Volvo drivers on the road -- and they wave back.

6) You make illegal U-turns in one move, just so you can see the police car behind you make a 9 point turn to chase after you. You enjoy the fact that once he turns his Police Interceptor around to give chase, you are already in the next county. If he catches you, you blind him with the rear-facing foglight before pulling over....
