Perhaps your “thin black” wire (un-switched +ve, which actually leads to the fuse box via the light switch) was connected to terminal 57a of the ignition switch instead of one of the terminals 30. If you look at my diagram you will see that 57a (which is not actually used for anything) only gets power when the ignition switch is in position “O - locked”, i.e. the position in which you can withdraw the key. |

Faust;
Simon wins the prize! My comments were pertaining to the older style Ign Sw. The later Ign Sw with integrated steering lock does indeed have a terminal which gets power during Ign OFF as Simon points out: Term 57a. * ...and I agree with Simon that your Light Switch supply wire (Black) is highly probably (incorrectly) connected to this terminal...remove and replace on one of the two Term 30s as shown on his earlier sketch! No voodoo, just good effective remote troubleshooting...good on ya! Cheers * This terminal powers "Standlicht" required in Germany (and possibly other places on the continent). Low wattage lamps left ON at outside corners to increase visibility when car is parked, half protruding onto narrow streets at night. |

The plot thickens!
Simon does seem to have (potentially!) solved the mystery... virtual pint for that man! I'll let you know how I get on... Mike Last edited by Faust; Apr 27th, 2017 at 22:35. Reason: spelling! |

Simon;
Since your input and sketch were most useful, and really the key bit of info to answering this question, I would like to include it, with your permission and attribution of course, as a reference on the Sw-Em Ignition page. Cheers |

Update:
It's sorted! Connections on the ignition switch have been done correctly and all is now well. Many thanks for all the help in sorting this out... I really appreciate it. Mike |
