Thanks all so far. I think I've got my head around rims and tyres but have an itch to scratch about lowering and tuning my car which I'd like some help with please. So if anyone could point me in the direction of build threads or examples of the following I'd be most grateful (car is facelift V50 D5):
Lowering springs - I'd like to drop the ride height by 20mm-30mm and have seen springs that will allow this. Any recommendations as to manufacturers and possible issues? Do i need to change the shocks as well? Remap - I'd like to remap the engine for slightly more power (but not ridiculous amounts). What's a safe limit and where in Carmarthen or Swansea can I find someone who properly knows what they're doing? Thanks again 👍 |

Tuning, although I’ve got the Polestar tune on my car (was till under manufactures warranty at the time) if I was looking now, I’d probably go for something from Shark, I believe they have dealers all over the place. Anyway, those are my suggestions, it’s your choice at the end of the day and you should go with what you want/can afford. Let us know what you go for. |

VX280, im sure the resident V50 D5 specialist will be along soon with what remap to get, I think I was running a shark tune? who are no more but might be able to recommend another good reliable tune to get.
With regards to coils, I would go for Eibach. Had these previously on my T5 S40 and were great, defenitly reduced that arch gap that came with these cars. Does depend what you want as well, although the coils were good and made the car stance a lot better there I wanted the car to corner flatter etc so I ended up just replacing it with coilovers which made a massive difference, but obviously cost a bit more.

I went for the Bilstein B12 kit for my V50. Includes Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks. Drops about 30mm. I fitted new top hats at the same time and adjustable rear arms to bring the rear camber back in line. I kept the 17s for comfort and a 50 profile just went a more aggressive offset to fill the arch. The front is perfect but the back could do with filling the arch's a bit better. Think I went with a 40 or 45 offset sorry cant remember.

Thanks all, some really helpful info which is much appreciated. Budget is always an issue so I think I'll just go for lowering springs for now and try to achieve a drop of 30mm or so 😊
Hopefully a D5 specialist will see this and give me some pointers too.👍 I'm still undecided on 17's or 18's with a 30mm drop.i was going to go for a 235 45 r18 tyres with a 40ish offset rim but not so sure now 🤔 Stevian1 am liking the look and stance of your car 😎 I'm torn between black 10 spoke rims or 5 spokes ones. Ideally I'd like a set of Pegasus rims but they seem to command a very high price on eBay 🤤. Also do I need to change the rear arms? I forgot to say I'll probably change the exhaust to a Stainless. system so as ever advice would be helpful. Thanks again |

So I've found these but the drop is 35mm. Would this cause an issue with 225 40 r18's? Or should I stick with something like 235 45 17's?

Play it safe and stay as close to the standard offset as you can. I went for wheels off a C70 so they’re only a slight change from what I had as standard and as such have no issues with any rubbing etc.
