Default battery powered impact wrenches - thoughts ?

Just wondering what others experiences of battery powered impact wrenches are ?

Are they able to get some of those rusted on & never removed before fixings off ?, makita dtw285z seems to have a good torque rating, are they any use for torque ing bolts up, or only really removing ?

If you are going makita I would look at the dwt1002z 1600Nm removal torque 1000Nm tightening.
Only thing that comes close is from milwalkee but as you are looking at the z range you must already have the batteries and charger.

My battery rattle gun is on its last legs, NI cad batteries failing and not holding charge and as I am committed to makita for other tools will be going the route of the 1002..

From experiance of a 24 year old landrover my NI cad gun, 460Nm was good when new but the batteries are always the weak spot and of late finding I'm having to use a breaker bar before the gun will wind the nut off. Hence my proposed move to the 1002 as I already have 6 batteries.

Extremely useful tool. I would recommend getting a 1/2" drive, and also buying 3/4 adaptors so you can use it to speed up any job.

Mine is only rated to 430Nm and the only thing it's ever struggled with are overtightened wheel nuts.

Some of the top end guns have astonishing amounts of torque.

Dewalt make a 1650nm break away torque, 1000nm torque wrench.

Makita / hitatchi / bosch & definately milwaukee

I have heard that Keilder are getting much praise in the motorsport world & they get abused

For anyone who's batteries are kissing goodbye to this life there is a plce in Leyland , Lancashire who refurbs cordless battery packs =
http://www.drillbattery.co.uk/

Only going by what I've heard , but I require replacements for my MAkita drill ( guess where i'm heading )

For general use the battery ones are ok, for serious hardcore fixings I have a mains powered Clarke one that has never failed me yet.

I have the DeWaltDCF899P2 18V XR High Torque Brushless Impact Wrench and it has helped me strip down so much stuff, soooo quickly.

It has only failed to shift one thing ("cold") and that was the crankshaft pulley on a Zetec SE engine (that has no woodruff keys - and is on flippin tight) but with a little heat from a heat gun, it fetched it off.

It was pricey at £350 but it came with a case and 2 5AH batteries, that I now use with my other Dewalt Drills/Torches etc.

Agree with all the above, however as I am already committed to makita the only choices for me were between makita and milwalkee. The milwalkee only considered because of recommendation from hgv fitters or it would of been straight makita.

The Milwaukee is the best.Just everything about it is a bit better in every way (except the price)
The Dewalt or Makita are both good toys if you wanted a slightly cheaper option
I own 2 guns a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch
The 3/8 th's is an M18 CIW 38 502X
And the 1/2 in h an M18 CHIWF12 502x
The 3/8 will undo wheel nuts etc and the 1/2 inch is a bloody monster.

If of interest to anyone I've just stumbled across a fantastic deal with Euro Car Parts of all places on the Milwaukee
They have the new 1/2 inch one key version (which has even more power than the previous model, and that was just phenomenal) 2x5 ah batteries, carry bag and a combi drill all for £495 inc vat.
