Default Volvo Extended Warranty - Year 3 to Year 4

I'd be interested in opinions on whether the Volvo extended warranty for Year 3 to Year 4 is worth.

In particular I'd be interested to hear if people have had issues in claiming against the warranty and found that things that they expected to be covered were covered.

I've got a couple of weeks left to decide whether to go for it for my S80.

All trims are not covered. If some of your chrome trims are cloudy because water has got under the lacquer then claim to get them changed. Another is the electric seat modules on the side of the seat that house the buttons and electronics coming adrift.

My advice would be to go over the car before the final service and list anything that is a problem or seems to possibly be developing into a problem and get it fix. Don't let them fob you off or you will have to pay.

The car has just had its Year 3 service and MOT (passed with no advisories - it would have been embarrassing for the Volvo workshop to have failed it after their inspection and service prior to the MOT!!!).

I listed all the items that I wanted to be checked in addition to the service and all were detailed on the workshop report as either okay or fixed.

I may go for the extended warranty but I cannot find a list of exclusions anywhere.

Glad to hear that your car sailed through the MOT. I have copied the exclusions from our cover. I do not think they have changed much if at all.

Here's an update with some important information regarding the Volvo Extended Warranty.

I've been reading up on the terms and conditions in more detail over the last couple of days and spotted a very important stipulation.

Firstly, here's a link to the policy document:

https://volvoextendedwarranty.motor-...y-document.pdf

Note this text on Page 5 of the policy document:

Quote:
Important
Vehicles should be serviced in accordance with the Volvo servicing schedule by an Authorised Volvo Repairer. Failure to do so may invalidate this insurance. A leeway of one month or 1,000 miles is permitted (whichever occurs first). Should you have any doubts concerning the service requirements of your Volvo, then please contact your Volvo Dealer for clarification.
I went to check my service booklet and the time between the service in 2017 (Year 2 service) and my last service in 2018 (Year 3 service) was a little over one month over the 1 year interval.

Given that this is in effect an insurance policy which means that the company will do its level best in not paying up for a warranty claim, I called them up and gave them the dates of my last two services (both carried out by a Volvo dealer). They assured me that this won't be an issue as it was beyond the leeway by just 2-3 weeks. The advisor made some notes against my car's registration number and I asked at least three times whether this would be okay. He told me it was a recorded line and it would be okay.

After that I purchased the extended warranty.

So, do check the dates entered on your Service Booklet for your Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 services and ensure that they are all within 1 month after the anniversary date. If they're slightly out then call up Volvo Extended Warranty and explain the situation to them BEFORE buying the extended warranty. Make sure they make notes against your registration number and that the phone call is recorded. To be honest, I would be surprised that an insurance company would turn down the chance to get 400 quid, but I'm fairly sure they would have used that clause in their policy document to avoid paying for a warranty repair had I not called them before taking out the extended warranty.
