Default Recommendations for Volvo servicing

Before too long I'll be needing to arrange a 4-year/72k mile service. I'm looking for recommendations/feedback/advice on any of the following places please...

Paul Rigby Stourbridge
Volvo Cars Shrewsbury
Listers Worcester
Brindley Wolverhampton

Fawcett's Newbury

FRF Motors Swansea

Obviously any scare-stories would also be interesting!

Thanks
Jon

If you're thinking of Newbury I highly recommend Millers Garage, they're a family run business who have excellent mechanics and know Volvos inside out. They're an Indy Volvo specialist, reasonable prices and excellent quality work. After I had my cambelt done recently they properly valeted my car as part of the service, and I'm not talking a bit of a wipe down, it was very clean when I picked it up, right down to cleaning the alloys. They also only use Volvo parts so you know what you're getting, I can't recommend them highly enough, I have no affiliation whatsoever, I'm just very happy with their work.

I use Paul Rigby in Birmingham and I highly recommend em so assuming Paul Rigby, Stourbridge are as good I’d chance my arm with em.

Why not get a small trusted independent to do it? you could even supply the parts yourself via Opie Oils or similar.

Unless you intend selling the car to a hardened Volvo licker, who cares where it was serviced? the point is proving it WAS serviced.

Does a FVSH actually add money to the car? I don't think it does.

I actually used my Volvo Dealer for servicing when I first got my car (at 4 years old) and stopped using them at 6 years old, the only thing I can recall is THE COST! it was horrific, I then went independent and saved probably 30% or more, then started doing it myself saving a further 30% at least.

I absolutely agree with the general thrust of your argument, but this will be the first service in my possession... I therefore need to ensure that all available software fixes are applied, especially as I've recently been getting a recurring engine warning light for an exhaust sensor issue (DTC P014c) which requires a software fix plus a clean to remedy (and apparently that should all be done for free). And I'd also like to have a printout for all previous work done by Volvo, for example the EGR/cooler rectification (which I can see has received some degree of upgrading, but I'm not sure how much).

After this service I shall probably either service it myself or follow your suggestion of using an indy.

Whilst Indies may be cheaper do you get

All relevant software upgrades ?
A years breakdown & recovery ? The cover is very good I took the time to read it before heading off to Germany this year.

When you factor in software upgrades that you may need can only be done at a dealer (Or an Indie with a subscription) will need to be factored in (£100 or so a time ???) & the Breakdown recovery is £240 approx. with the AA for full cover without the European cover.

Being as most people only get their car serviced once a year is an indie really £340 cheaper ?

OK with older less electronically loaded cars it makes sense but for the newer cars I personally feel dealership prices aren't too bad for what you get (Dealer depending).

£240 for breakdown cover! shop round if I were you. I've got full personal uk cover with European cover on my car and the wife has full uk personal cover, we only paid about £150 for us two with green flag.
As for dealership prices they are more but you do get added benefits of software upgrades etc.
