Ect, engine coolant temp sensor

Previously when I used the Torque app on my -99 c70, I could monitor the coolant temperature, now it just shows 0 degrees. The instrument cluster shows normal values, maybe a slight dip from 3 o'clock to 2.45-2.50, and it may take a little bit longer to get up to temperature, but then again we have had a bit of a cold spell lately.

Can this be indication of the ECT packing in? No fault codes, but it seems a little hesitant and slightly low on power.

I read somewhere that there are two temp sensors, the main one being the ECT and if that gives an error the secondary sensor gives a somewhat correct reading to the ECU, but it can cause misfires.

ETA, not 2.45-2.50, but 3.10-3.15, or in other words it reads a little low.

Hi C70 98,

If the instrument cluster shows 2:45 or 2:50 I would call that a high reading not a blip. ?

I am not sure about there being two sensors, but I would like to know if there are.

In Torque, have you included the "Coolant" display, or are you looking at another sensor? (Sorry I don't have Torque running in front of me). If you pick the wrong display for your OBD setup, Torque may display 0. Has your Torque coolant display worked correctly for you before?

Yes, you are, of course correct, I meant between 3.10-3.15, silly me...
To void any confusion, it runs a little bit cold, not always but now and then there is a dip.

I can't remember where now, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there are two temp sensors where the ECU gets the readings from.

It's from the "coolant" display, now it just reads 0, previously it showed the actual temperature.

As far as I know there is only one coolant temp sensor serving the dual purpose of feeding information to the ecu and instrument cluster.The only other temp sensor I can think of is the air temp sensor mounted below the front bumper which also feeds info to the ecu and can have an effect on fuelling.Could the temp gauge reading a little low point to a thermostat beginning to get "lazy"?

It could be a thermostat issue, then again if that was the case, then Torque should be showing a correct temperature reading.

Is the car you are trying to read a 1998 or a 1999?
You mention previously reading a 1999 but your signature suggests 98.

Did Torque previously show the actual temperature on this same car?

Have you looked through the available Torque displays to see if there another coolant related display?

I have two of these c70s, one -98 that is now a donor car and then a -99 that I use as a daily

This is on the -99, previously I could use Torque to monitor the coolant temperature on the same display that now shows only 0.
