Yes might as well put in a few litres just in case. Keep it simple.

That was the problem with my non-starting XC70. There was fuel in but parked on an incline it was soon sucking fumes. Different tank on the P2 cars but it took 10l before it would start.

Good point, worth putting some fuel in just in case, thanks.

Vanno

I did a long thread on this approx 3 years ago so do a search !

Long and short was intermittent non start and 421 ? Code - cps fault as Steve suggests. Replaced made not a jot of difference. New plugs leads diz rotor coil - has started first time every time since and given she went through the MOT last month with zero spend turned out to be a sound investment

Best of luck hope this does not knaw at your sanity !

Just an update for all who has read and or contributed to this thread. First, many thanks must go to owners club member John called to deliver a new grill for the S70. I was talking about the problem and he offered to fit the battery which cranked the car and it fired up straight away. He then went on to code the radio and give me some very useful advice about the car. What a legend! So to summarise, not sure why the car died initially and why it wouldn't start again but the new battery did the trick. Thanks to all who gave advice.

If... Just if... The battery died while the car was running, check the belt if its tensioned / the alternator if it charges... The battery randomly dying during the car running with no lights/heater etc on is very strange... Or hopefully the battery was dead from the start and it depleted itself completely

Just to clarify, the battery was shot, I was able to start the car after putting it on charge for several hours and the car was ticking over, the car just died as if it had run out of fuel, (which it hadn't). With charge in the battery, the car wouldn't start again, (with slow crank), but soon failed to crank because it was shot. New battery kicked it up straight away.
