Thanks NI-Volvo-nut.

Yes I checked with the DVLNI last year and apparently the car was exported to the UK mainland in 1996, the DVLA only have what they call 'skeleton' record, so I guess the car was never taxed again, presumably scrapped.

It is a real shame as 240's seem to be in very short supply over here in NI as you well know!!

Oh it is nice- far too nice for me!! lol

I'm keeping an eye for something in poor shape so I wont feel bad about doing an engine transplant which I'd love to have a go at.

Really must stop reading Practical Performance Car mag....

In 2004 my Dad was lucky enough to come across a 92K Peugeot 205 1.9 Genty Auto in Sorrento Green, lovely car with full brown leather, a full stretch sunroof and the 1.9 GTI engine coupled to a 4speed autobox, 80,000 miles but only cost £450!!!
In the UK they sold 300 examples (150 Green, 150 Gold), the Gentry was even more than the 1.9 GTI (About £17,500 in todays money.)

Really wish he had kept that car, don't ever come across them

I miss a few.
My mini -PIA 755, I'm thinking of getting another.
My Landrover Defender 110 CSW, miss it, but not sure I'd rush out for another one.
MX5 surprisingly as well. The wife misses that one the most.

About two years ago we were about to move house and my 740 failed the MOT and the engine had developed an electrical failure problem.

I would dearly loved to have had the problems solved, a lot of the MOT work I would have done myself but then I could not afford to have an immobile car on the drive on the day we moved so it was sent to that great big car park in the sky.

Then the owner of the house we were moving to died how inconsiderate!! The move fell through.

How I wish I had kept that dearly beloved 740 even with 302 thousand on the clock!

Have an 850 now - not a patch on the old 740.
