Sorry to dig up and old post, but I'm having some trouble.

I've currently go the standard Performance System with Steering controls and AUX in the arm rest.

I've got the chance of getting a High Performance System from a SE LUX S40. This one has the 6 CD changer.

My question is, what do I need to change this lot over? If I change my performance head unit for the high performance head unit with CD changer, can I still use my AUX socket that's in the arm rest (all standard Volvo equipment)

Secondly, is it worth changing the front speakers over with the ones from the SE LUX? Is there a separate amp with the high performance system or is that also intergraded into the head unit?

This is something I looked into and from the information I found out, its not as easy to do as I first thought. Changing the components is easy but the parts information suggests that different systems have different wiring harnesses.
The base system has the amp built in so the speaker wiring will run from the dash. The high performance system has a separate amp mounted in the rear quarter panel, hence all the speaker wiring runs from there. There's also an optical link between the HU in the dash and the amp.
I'm sure it can be done, and if you go for it, I'd be interested to hear how you get on and which wiring is pre-fitted or needs to be added.
I was also planning to change the speakers and add tweeters to the rear doors as the standard system doesn't have them.

Default Lack of treble...

I have recently purchased a 2011 V50, which is generally delightful, including the audio. However, I do have to have the treble set to maximum - for all inputs - and the sound is still not as crisp at the higher end, compared to previous vehicles or domestic audio. This is most unusual, as my experience is usually the opposite... Is this a characteristic of Volvo our do I have faulty tweeters perhaps?

I'm not aware of any radio covering MW, unless I've just had a string of them that happened to not get MW

Sound is subjective, but I generally have the treble in mine (05 model, high performance sound system) set at the minimum setting.
If yours is high performance system, press menu and scroll through audio settings, they have separate graphic equaliser for front and rear, play around with that.

Adding tweeters to the rear doors if you don't already have them will help you. The wiring is already in place and active.

I found a guide on youtube I think for setting up the Graphic Equaliser and the sound had much greater clarity afterwards, a big improvement.

That's when the bloody thing actually works, it's decided it's not a CD player anymore.

If it has a dash speaker it should be Premium Audio. 10 speakers and Dolby Surround. The dash speaker is a centre speaker for Dolby so won't always belt out sound.
