Default V70 XC - Rear Anti Roll Bar Bushes

I know that Volvo do not supply these bushes as separates......you have to buy the complete ARB as an assembly.

Have found on ebay some bushes for 19mm and 21mm diameter bars. I've just crawled under the car with an open ended 19mm spanner, and the bar fitted to my car is less......maybe 17mm.

Do I have the correct size rear ARB fitted to my car, MY2002, or if so, where can I get the smaller diameter bushes from.

Bump

Car is due an MOT next month so need to get this sorted. If I replace my rear ARBar with a larger diameter one, would I need a larger size drop links on the rear to match

The front and rear ARBs are sized to work together, though they are not, or may not be, the same diameter. So if you increase the size of only the rear one, it might have an unwelcome effect on handling. You should check on any proposed change with authoritative sources.

Yes sounds like you've got the right one, the xc arbs are very weedy. Could be as narrow as 14mm, it's certainly no sports model. A thicker arb on the rear alone could make the back end a little more lively. This is how ipd supply their 'track spec' kit for the r, with a thicker front and even thicker rear to make it more 'involving' ride.

If you do fit a thicker rear arb you shouln't need to fit different drop links.

Any idea where I can get the bushes from, rather than have to buy the whole bar assembly

What exactly are you refering to by the term "authoritative sources".

The Equiv over here will be the MOT test and/ or the insurance company as such a modification could invalidate the insurance if the vehicle crashes with the mod undisclosed (would take a very keen accident investigator to spot the ARB thickness change though) - Mike

. . . anyone who knows whether or not you can make such a change without screwing up the handling of the vehicle, especially in an emergency maneuver, for example, someone who would know whether the DSTC would get an inapropriate cue as to what the vehicle was doing and say brake a wheel too strongly or not strongly enough.

This could be some enthusiast who has personal experience with the properties of these ARBs, or it could be an informed employee of a company selling these bars.

My base model V70 has no ARB on the rear and I think a relatively small diameter one in front. So if I were going to put one on the rear, I think I would have to replace the front one with a larger diameter one. But I am not going to do that unless I have to replace the front ARB.

I had fairly good success injecting polyurethane into the bushes.

I cleaned the gaps/voids with brake cleaner, let it dry, then injected tiger seal into the spaces. Smooth it off, let it set, car passed it's MOT no problem. The bushes still looked good when I inspected them 3 months later.

Not the ideal answer, but beats buying/fitting a new bar.

Try a google search for volvo arb 17mm.
