Cow, I mean Volvo tipping!
Hey Guys
It was my first Volvo weekend in a while and although the cause was a little depressing, I had fun none the less. We stripped the 142 in preparation to sell her on. Its the right thing to do as I am more than likely not going to be in South Africa next year and leaving the burden of a rust bucket like Jennifer, as much as I love her, with my parents when space is limited as it is is not quite fair. Not to mention that my student finances could do with the boost. Tied the one end of a towing rope to the top of the B pillar and the other end to a Citi Golf (Yes, they only stopped making those this year in SA!) that was waiting on the opposite side of the 142 and then pulled her over. It was quite a nerve wrecking affair, but one of those crazy moments you wouldn't have done differently! If there is anything anyone needs off the car just shout, I'm not scared of international shipping. I do have the aluminium door sills, I know those are quite sort after, and other bits and bobs. Does anyone that has parted one of these out taken note of how much the shell weighs when they have scrapped the car? I shudder to ask the question, but it may come to that. Anyway, thats my Sundays war story. Share any similar stories that you may have had, would be fun to hear about! Dylan Last edited by Dylan144GT; Sep 13th, 2010 at 20:45. |

The front wings and lower valance look much better than mine and are surely worth saving?
I dread to think of the postage cost to the UK though? As the postage is probably out of this world for the wings, would you be willing to remove the stainless strips and mail to the UK as mine are badly damaged? |

The bare shell weighs in under 500kg.

Is that some sort of (not very effective in this case!) anti-roll bar on the rear axle?
Interesting to notice how the concept of rustbucket differs across the globe. Last edited by marcmarel; Sep 14th, 2010 at 11:47. |
