Radiator removal from top?
Hey guys,
Anyone ever removed the radiator from top? There is a youtube video for removing the intercooler from top, but not sure about the radiator. |

Ok guys. I finally managed to do it. I chose the route of removing it from the bottom. Bought a bottle jack and a pair of new high jackstands. I was about to raise my car. However to my surprise I managed to removed it without lifting the car an inch!
Dropped it to the floor. The intercooler was removed by tilting it forward, while the radiator was tilted backward (into the car). I hope this helps! |

Just the front plastic bumper in order to remove the bottom metal skid plate. I saw some people managed to remove the skid plate without removing the bumper. But i choose to remove it coz it is easy enough and improved access to the lower part of the radiator sandwich.

My experience fittin a new intercooler
I have just fitted a new intercooler to my 2002 V70 manual D5 2.4 and have to say I was amazed how easy it was in relation to some videos which suggest one should virtually remove half the front of the car!
I did jack up the car by about a foot, which made working underneath the car to remove fixings, so much easier. Certain people denigrate the Haynes manual , but in my case, I thought I would follow it and its description concerning removing the electric fan and the radiator . This was relatively easy and with the removal of a couple of the hoses and unclipping a few electric plugs, there was room to separate the three radiator pack. Once they were sperated I could slide the Aircon rad towards the engine, leaving the water radiator virtually where it was and I then could manoeuvre the intercooler out and upwards. I did position a second jack underneath of the three rads with a block of wood which allowed me to move the rear rad towards the engine , but keep them at one height but with no fear of one dropping down. This made the job easier on the reassembly as I could use the jack to lift it up or down to refit the pack bolts on my own and without help. So all the apprehension that I had developed reading and watching advice on this job was in hindsight, was exaggerated and excessive. The pictures of the front end of the car stripped of bodywork would surely frighten anyone? So removing slam panels and front bumpers is for the birds in my view ! I ordered the Danish 'Nissens' intercooler off EBay for £102 inc shipping. But do not rush vet hey range wildly for the same make and type do rad. It arrived two days later, beautifully packed and looks excellent quality. So very pleased with the whole job, just go for it and don't be scared. Last edited by Coolerking50; Feb 7th, 2018 at 12:16.
