Default Loss of throttle, engine cutting out

Hi after some advice/help please.

S60 d5 2003.

Loss of throttle followed shortly after by engine cutting out, to be honest scared me to death whilst in lane 3 of the M1 the other day. This has happened 3 times now, the mechanic I use has suggested that it could be crank shaft sensor. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is a guy on here called: CLAN - I would PM him mate, he genuinely seems vastly knowledgeable on all Volvo's and is really helpful. Sorry I can't help myself.

Failing that call Claytons Volvo at Mansfield Woodhouse and ask for Keith Clayton, explain you need advice and explain what's happening to him, if he can't help he will be able to point you in the right direction.

went to a mickey mouse garage near to where it cut out, he put his code reader on and managed to wipe codes before we managed to read them.
Sorry should have mentioned car started with no problems after switching key off and leaving for approx 2 mins no messages werre displayed on dash.
re mechanics conclusion, he got too technical and went over the top of my head, sorry to be vague but my mechanical know how is a bit limited.

well i am mickey but no mouse and can help you with the code reading if you want to go down that route, thats the problem with garages today and not your fault they will not give you the info that you want.you can check for dtc on your car without diagnostic equipment it will no tell you a code but will tell you what module.ignition to postion 2, press and hold the info button on the indicator stalk at the same time press in your rear fogs a couple of time's, in the display you will get checking dtc's, schroll through and it will tell you what module.

as you say the car started again i would stay clear of the garage untill you have any more issue's, a code will be stored but is not effecting the car at the moment.

Doubt this is the issue but we have had this happen a couple of times in our V70 (2004) D5.

Our keyfob is faulty. The key blade does not stay erect (oo er) and when I caught it with my knee it killed the ignition. My wife did the same.

Just a thought.
