Question 2003 XC90 Hatch Not Opening - Handle OK!

I have read other threads about this, however I think this is a new issue. Let me start by saying I just bought the vehicle and it does not have a key fob! I will have to get one. ($$$ I'm sure) Regardless, I should be able to open the hatch without it. Here's what I have done so far: I confirmed the lock actuator motor in the hatch is working. I put 12 v to the motor and it did run both ways. I was able to open the hatch after running the actuator to the open position by external power. As soon as I locked the doors, I was no longer able to get the hatch open. When the doors are locking, I hear the actuator click in the hatch, but I don't hear anything when unlocking twice using the key. All the passenger doors open, but the hatch actuator is not functioning. I am also getting an "Alarm Service Required" message. Not sure if this is related. Sure would like to hear some ideas from you experts out there. I would be very grateful for a solution. We have no Volvo dealer here on our island. Thanks!

Lightbulb Got it figured out!

Wow, I lucked out here! After downloading some wiring diagrams, I noticed that the two locking motor wires for the hatch went to 2 different relays in the REM. They are RMI19 and RMI20. I thought I would start here to check for faulty relays. Bingo! One of the relays had a bad n/o contact. I burnished the contact since I had no replacement, and it works fine!! Breaking out the bubbly!!!
