Zebster, it is the 2.0 VEA D4, no warning lights and no stored codes using Torque Pro OBDII reader.

Is anyone else's car showing that there is now an open recall on

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

I know before mine wasn't but is as of 16th August 2019. I presume that means Volvo have escalated it from a warning to an actual recall now.

edit.....

Just checked on the My Volvo website...... it is now an official recall from Volvo. So expect letters soon for affected cars.

So you already looked for pending(unconfirmed) DTCs? On my (cheapskate) version of Torque Lite it is a different option than reading active codes.

My car does now come up on the DVLA recall. However my original recall notification letter from Volvo dated 10/07/2019 advised me that I would receive a second letter when a proposed solution became available, so I'm now patiently waiting for that second letter. And I've not yet seen any posts here confirming that the proposed solution rollout has started.

I have tried doing some good old Italian tuning when the car is all toasty warm, taking it right through the rev range and driving along at 3000+rpm for a couple of miles but no real change after it
No expert but have seen many posts about this being caused by emap pipe blocked to the exhaust pressure sensor. Pipe is around £77 and it's easy enough to do yourself. 1 banjo bolt 1 8mm socket for other bolt and 27mm for sensor (as I've seen on other thrrads) pipe is at the top rear of the engine.

Have a search of the forums first. Of cause there may be other reason s and ot may be best to take it in.

I don't believe there is a proper fix in place yet for the recall. If the inlet manifold has degraded they are just fitting a replacement of the same type, which will probably last another 4 years.

Mine was replaced on 30th July and it is still plastic.

A better solution would have been to replace it with a different material instead of plastic, maybe aluminium.

Did they say whether yours had actually deformed, or did it have a build-up of soot? Or something else?

I suppose a metal replacement would mitigate the burning concern which the safety recall is obviously based upon, however I'm hoping that Volvo do also address whatever underlying issues (EGR flow?) are causing the manifold to become affected. No idea if this is possible though!

No, dealers seem to be very selective about what they tell you. Only told it needed replacing. They wont even tell me what the software update was for, only it had a diesel ECM update. I was concerned this software update was the cause of my intermittent hiccup but no body will tell me what it does.

I was told mine had failed though, not sure if cracked, deformed l, sooted up or what. I would imagine sooting up wouldn't cause a fire risk so I'm guessing the manifold itself was failing.

In the absence of facts we will make some up

Mine, bought from a non Volvo dealer, has an outstanding recall according to the DVLA site.
I had informed Volvo about the change of ownership but as yet not had any letter.

Mine is booked in for the 27th August. Should have been in on the 7th but they are waiting for parts to arrive from Sweden.

I was talking to the service guy last week and at that time no official fix has been released. I'm not sure if that has changed.

I recall reading that the hesitation may be due to the inlet valves being sooted up.

My car is now starting to "stutter", sometimes on idle but more often under light load in the 1000-2000 rpm range. No error messages yet. I have had the "definitive" EGR fix about 30K miles ago. I have a recall letter but no work done yet.

I am tempted to check the EMAP pipe, if it is easily accessible. If blocked I might either clean or replace it. Does anyone know the exact part number and has anyone found any online instructions that describe this task and give extra info such as torque settings for the bolt and sensor, on replacement, please?

To be honest, I'd probably take it in to Volvo and let them diagnose it first as part of the recall program.

You never know, it might get fixed for free.
